Illustration Workshop with Johanna & Cristóbal Schmal
from 15.07. – 21.07.2024 in Erlau (Odenwald)

The course
When the seasons change, some birds travel thousands of kilometres to reach distant corners of the world. In ancient times, scientists made long journeys to explore new worlds in search of new knowledge and cultures. What fascinates us about travelling? Discovering new destinations? Taking distance from our daily lives? Is it a way of escape? Or is it a way of finding oneself?
In this course we will work on the idea of travel as a journey, that takes us to new places. The journey as a process and as a destination in itself. That part of the journey that is often relegated to a simple transition between the point of departure and the point of arrival.
We propose to take you to the roads in search of those moments lost in memory: the broken-down car in the middle of the road, the conversation on the train with the seat neighbour, the boat crossing in the middle of the storm, etc.
We will dive into our memories in search of these little journeys and create stories using drawing as a narrative language, taking advantage of the freedoms that the Zine gives us.
